Shitennoji is one of Japan's oldest officially-administered Buddhist temples, founded in 593 CE by Prince Shotoku. The complex is organized in three separately-ticketed sections: the Chushin Garan (Central Temple Complex), home to the five-story pagoda, Kondo (Golden Hall), and Kodo (Lecture Hall), all faithful concrete reconstructions of the original Asuka-period layout; the Treasure House (Homotsukan), a museum of temple artifacts; and the Gokuraku-jodo Garden, a landscaped pond garden. The outer temple grounds and main gate are open for worship at any time, free of charge.

The complex's main worship halls, arranged in the historic Shitennoji-style layout unique among Japan's oldest temples.
Gokuraku-jodo Garden
