One of Japan's oldest official Buddhist temples, founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku; the Chushin Garan (Central Complex) includes the five-story pagoda, Kondo (Golden Hall), and Kodo (Lecture Hall), all faithful concrete reconstructions of the original Asuka-period layout after wartime destruction.
