Pricing Analysis & Important Details
01. Neither Go City nor Turbopass operates in Ghent — only the official CityCard Gent
Confirmed against both providers' own published destination lists: neither Go City nor Turbopass lists Ghent or any Belgian city outside their existing coverage. Ghent's official multi-attraction pass is CityCard Gent, sold and administered directly by the City of Ghent via its own visit.gent.be tourism portal.
02. CityCard Gent is a physical card only, valid for 48 or 72 hours
Unlike some city passes, there is currently no digital version — the card is a physical card sold at the tourist office, partner hotels/B&Bs, and museums across the city, and starts counting down from the date you write on the back when you first use it. It covers one free entry each to 13+ named venues (including Gravensteen, the Belfry, MSK, S.M.A.K., and STAM) plus all temporary exhibitions, one guided boat tour, a day of bike rental, a day of hop-on/hop-off water-tram access, and unlimited De Lijn buses and trams.
03. Saint Bavo's Cathedral is a mixed case — free to enter, but the Altarpiece is a separate ticket
The cathedral's nave, chapels, and baroque high altar are free to visit at any time. Seeing the Ghent Altarpiece (the Mystic Lamb) by Jan and Hubert van Eyck requires a separate ticket through the dedicated visitor centre, from €12.50 for a 25-minute view of the altarpiece alone up to €16 for a full 60-minute guided/AR tour. CityCard Gent gives a confirmed €10 discount on this ticket — not free entry.
04. St. Nicholas' Church needs no pass — it's simply always free
One of Ghent's three landmark towers alongside the Belfry and Saint Bavo's Cathedral, St. Nicholas' Church has no admission charge at any time, with donations welcomed for its upkeep.
Which Option Fits Your Visit?
A Monument-Focused Day (or Two)
CityCard Gent covers Gravensteen, the Belfry, and the boat tour in one card — strong value if you're visiting two or more of these paid sights in a day or two.
You'll Use the Bus or Tram
CityCard Gent includes unlimited De Lijn buses and trams within Ghent for its full 48 or 72 hours, which can offset much of its cost on its own for a car-free visit.
A Free Landmarks Day
Skip any pass — Saint Bavo's Cathedral and St. Nicholas' Church cost nothing to enter, and both reward simply walking around at your own pace.
Seeing the Ghent Altarpiece
Budget for a separate ticket (from €12.50) regardless of any pass — CityCard Gent only discounts it by €10, it doesn't include it for free.
