Pricing Analysis & Important Details

01. Anne Frank House: no pass gets you in faster

Neither the I amsterdam City Card nor any Go City Amsterdam pass includes the Anne Frank House — the museum's own site lists the City Card explicitly as 'no discount', and Go City only sells unrelated walking tours that reference Anne Frank, not admission to the house. Museumkaart reduces the price to a €1.00 booking fee, but every visitor — pass or not — competes for the same ticket release every Tuesday at 10:00 CEST, for a visit six weeks later.

02. Van Gogh Museum dropped the I amsterdam City Card in 2022

As of 1 June 2022, the Van Gogh Museum is no longer affiliated with the I amsterdam City Card. It also does not appear on Go City Amsterdam's attraction list. Museumkaart is the only pass here that includes it.

03. The I amsterdam City Card's transit only comes with the pricier tier

The Total Experience Card shown in this comparison includes unlimited GVB tram/bus/metro/ferry travel. A cheaper 'Explorer' version of the same card exists (from €44 for 3 attractions) but does not include public transport at all.

04. Museumkaart is an annual card, not a short-stay product

At €75 for a full year covering 400+ Dutch museums, Museumkaart is aimed at residents and repeat visitors. For a single short Amsterdam trip it's rarely the cheapest option — its real advantage is being the only pass here that includes the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House.

Which Option Fits Your Visit?

🚋

Museums + Transit Sightseer (2-4 Days)

The I amsterdam City Card is the strongest all-rounder: it bundles the Rijksmuseum, a canal cruise, and unlimited GVB transit in one card — though it won't get you into the Van Gogh Museum or Anne Frank House.

🎡

Attraction-Packed Trip, No Transit Needed

Go City Amsterdam's All-Inclusive Pass covers 55+ attractions (including Heineken Experience, A'DAM Lookout, Moco Museum and Rembrandt House) with unlimited visits over your chosen number of days.

🖼️

Van Gogh & Anne Frank Are Your Priorities

Neither the City Card nor Go City includes these two — book both directly, well in advance for the Anne Frank House. A Museumkaart helps only if you're staying long enough in the Netherlands to justify an annual card.

🚶

Visiting Only 1-2 Attractions

Individual tickets win here. At €25 each for the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum, no pass in this comparison beats buying just one or two tickets directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best city pass for Amsterdam?
It depends on your priorities. The I amsterdam City Card is the strongest all-rounder (museums, a canal cruise, and unlimited public transport in one card). Go City Amsterdam covers more individual attractions (55+) with no transit. Museumkaart is the only one that includes the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House, but it's an annual card best suited to longer stays.
Does any pass include the Anne Frank House?
Only Museumkaart, and only partially — it reduces the ticket to a €1.00 booking fee, but you still need to book through the museum's own weekly ticket release like every other visitor. Neither the I amsterdam City Card nor Go City Amsterdam includes it at all.
Does the I amsterdam City Card include public transport?
The 'Total Experience' version of the card includes unlimited GVB tram, bus, metro, and ferry travel. A cheaper 'Explorer' version of the same card exists but does not include transit.
Is Museumkaart worth buying for a short trip?
Usually not for a 2-4 day visit — it's an annual card priced for residents and repeat visitors. It only pays off quickly if the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House are priorities you can't get on another pass.
