Pricing Analysis & Important Details
01. The official MuseumPass İstanbul is much narrower than the private Istanbul Tourist Pass
Confirmed directly on muze.gen.tr, the government's own MuseumPass İstanbul explicitly does not cover Hagia Sophia, Chora Church, the Basilica Cistern, or Dolmabahçe Palace's main Selamlık section — only Topkapı Palace, the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, and the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum are confirmed included.
02. Hagia Sophia and Chora Church lost museum-pass eligibility after being reinstated as mosques
Both landmarks were reconverted into active mosques in 2020. Since then, neither MuseumPass İstanbul nor MuseumPass Türkiye can be used for entry at either site — a genuinely easy-to-miss change from their long-standing museum status.
03. Go City does not currently sell an Istanbul pass
Confirmed directly on gocity.com: navigating to Istanbul's destination page returns a 404, and Istanbul does not appear on Go City's Europe, North America, or Rest of World destination lists.
04. Several flagship sites now price foreign visitors in Euros, not Turkish Lira
Hagia Sophia, Galata Tower, Chora Church, and the Istanbul Archaeology Museums all quote foreign-visitor admission directly in EUR, while Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern, and Dolmabahçe Palace remain priced in Turkish Lira — a genuine, deliberate per-attraction currency split, not a data error.
Which Option Fits Your Visit?
Visiting Many Landmarks in a Short Trip
The Istanbul Tourist Pass's confirmed hosted entry to Hagia Sophia, Topkapı, the Cistern, Galata Tower, and Dolmabahçe pays off fast over 1-3 days.
Focusing Only on State Museums
MuseumPass İstanbul is the cheaper, genuinely official option if Topkapı Palace and the Archaeology Museums are your priority — but it won't get you into Hagia Sophia.
Visiting the Blue Mosque
Skip any pass — it's a free, active mosque with no ticket needed at any time outside prayer hours.
A Basilica Cistern Night Visit
Book the Night Shift session directly — no pass in this comparison changes its own separate evening pricing.
Detailed Attraction Guides
Verified prices, booking rules, and pass compatibility for Istanbul's most-visited sites.

🗝️ Istanbul's Secret Places
Three free spots — verified against visit.istanbul's own listings.
Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passage)
A free 19th-century glass-roofed arcade on İstiklal Avenue, once filled with flower stalls and still lined with restaurants.
Avrupa Pasajı (Passage d'Europe)
A quieter, ornately decorated 1870s passage just off İstiklal, with European-style architecture and far fewer crowds.
Balat
A free, colourful historic neighbourhood of steep streets and painted houses on the Golden Horn's southern shore.
