Overview & History

Topkapı Palace was the primary residence of the Ottoman sultans for nearly four centuries, its opulent courtyards, jewel-filled Treasury, and sprawling Harem offering one of the richest glimpses into Ottoman imperial life anywhere in the world. Since January 2024 a single combined ticket covers the Palace, the Harem, and the separate Hagia Irene church within the grounds — and it's one of the few Istanbul landmarks genuinely included on both major city passes.

What to See: Top Highlights

💎

The Imperial Treasury

Home to the Topkapı Dagger and the 86-carat Spoonmaker's Diamond.

🏯

The Harem

The sultan's private family quarters, a labyrinth of ornately tiled rooms.

⛪

Hagia Irene

A Byzantine church within the palace's First Court, one of the few in Istanbul never converted into a mosque.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ticket include the Harem?
Yes — since January 2024, Topkapı Palace, the Harem, and Hagia Irene are sold as a single combined ticket.
Is Topkapı Palace covered by MuseumPass İstanbul?
Yes — it's one of only a small number of attractions explicitly named on the official pass's own inclusion list.
Why is Topkapı priced in Lira while Hagia Sophia is priced in Euros?
Topkapı keeps its official foreign-visitor price in Turkish Lira, unlike Hagia Sophia and a few other flagship sites that quote foreign-visitor prices directly in EUR — a genuine, confirmed per-attraction split, not an error.
