I amsterdam City Card vs Museumkaart
Quick answer
The I amsterdam City Card starts at €67 for 24 hours and bundles museums, attractions and GVB public transport. The Museumkaart costs €75 for a year and covers more than 500 Dutch museums, with no transport. One decisive difference: the Van Gogh Museum is free with the Museumkaart and no longer affiliated with the I amsterdam City Card.
Figures come from our registry, last checked 2026-09-16. We do not name a winner: the right pass depends on what you will visit.

Key differences
Short stay versus a year
The I amsterdam City Card is sold for one to five days and starts when activated. The Museumkaart is valid for a year, is strictly personal, and a temporary card can be used immediately at participating museum ticket offices.
The Van Gogh Museum
The museum states that it is no longer affiliated with the I amsterdam City Card, and the Museumkaart gives free entry. The Anne Frank House is also not a free inclusion on the I amsterdam City Card.
Transport
The I amsterdam City Card includes GVB tram, bus, metro, night bus and ferry travel, but not NS trains or regional operators. The Museumkaart includes no transport.
Beyond museums
The I amsterdam City Card lists the Heineken Experience, the A’DAM Lookout and a canal cruise as included, and the Moco Museum. The Museumkaart does not include the Moco Museum, which offers its holders a discount instead; its status for the other three is unconfirmed in our data.
Timed tickets
The Rijksmuseum requires a start-time booking for all visitors, so holders of either card still need to reserve a slot.
