Start in the old town at Marienplatz — the Glockenspiel show plays at 11:00 and 12:00 (also 17:00 in summer), so time your arrival if you want to see it.

Late morning - afternoon (11:45 - 15:30)

Munich Residenz, Germany

A short walk to the Residenz. Buy the Gesamtkarte (EUR 20/EUR 16) to cover the Residenzmuseum, Schatzkammer (Treasury) and Cuvilliés Theatre together — the cheaper Kombikarte (EUR 15/EUR 13) excludes the theatre.

Tickets: No reservation required; last admission 17:00 in summer, 16:00 in winter

Duration: 2.5 - 3 hours for all three components

Travel: 10 minutes on foot from Marienplatz

Evening (16:00 - 19:00)

Viktualienmarkt, Munich, Germany

Wind down at Munich's historic food market — a beer garden, produce stalls and an easy dinner before the day ends.

Duration: 1 - 2 hours

Travel: 5 minutes on foot from the Residenz

💡 Practical Tips & Recommendations

• Buy the Residenz's Gesamtkarte (not the cheaper Kombikarte) if you specifically want the Cuvilliés Theatre included.
• The Munich City Pass covers all three Residenz components via this same Gesamtkarte mechanism, redeemed at the ticket office.

Day 2: Deutsches Museum

Deutsches Museum, Munich, Germany

The main Deutsches Museum site, on its own island in the Isar. An ongoing modernisation currently keeps more than half the traditional exhibition halls closed (targeted completion 2028) — check the current exhibition list before you go so you know what's actually open.

Tickets: Advance online purchase recommended, not required; last admission 16:30

Duration: 3 - 4 hours

Travel: About 15-20 minutes by tram/on foot from Marienplatz

💡 Practical Tips & Recommendations

• This is the MAIN site only — the Verkehrszentrum (transport branch) and Flugwerft Schleissheim (aviation branch, ~40-45 minutes away in Oberschleissheim) are separate locations with their own separate tickets, not covered by this same admission.
• If you also want the Verkehrszentrum, it's a short tram ride from the main site and can realistically be added to the same afternoon if you start early.

Day 3: Museumsviertel & Nymphenburg

Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany

Old Masters collection. A combined EUR 12 day ticket also covers Pinakothek der Moderne, Museum Brandhorst and Sammlung Schack if you want to add more than one.

Tickets: Closed Mondays

Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours

Late morning (11:45 - 13:15)

Design, architecture and modern/contemporary art, right across the street.

Tickets: Closed Mondays

Duration: 1.5 hours

Travel: 5 minutes on foot

Afternoon (14:00 - 17:00)

Nymphenburg Palace, Munich, Germany

Take the tram across to Nymphenburg for the afternoon. The palace apartments are confirmed included with the Munich City Pass; whether the Marstallmuseum and park pavilions are also included is genuinely disputed between two official sources, so confirm at the ticket office. The park pavilions are only open 1 April - 15 October.

Travel: About 20 minutes by tram from the Pinakotheken

💡 Practical Tips & Recommendations

• This entire museum cluster (Alte Pinakothek, Pinakothek der Moderne, Museum Brandhorst, Sammlung Schack, plus the Glyptothek and Staatliche Antikensammlungen at nearby Königsplatz) is closed on Mondays — do not schedule this day on a Monday.
• If this day falls on a Sunday, these state museums charge just EUR 1 admission each — buying individual tickets is usually far cheaper than any pass for a Sunday museum day like this.
• An alternative for this afternoon: swap Nymphenburg for BMW Welt (free) and the BMW Museum (EUR 17), both near Olympiapark.
