Overview & History

The Franciscan Monastery sits at the western end of Stradun, Dubrovnik's main limestone-paved thoroughfare. Its 14th-century Romanesque cloister — one of the few structures to survive the catastrophic 1667 earthquake — leads to the monastery's Old Pharmacy, in continuous operation since 1317 and among the oldest functioning pharmacies in Europe, plus a small museum of monastic manuscripts, liturgical objects, and pharmacy jars. The adjoining church itself is free to enter separately.

What to See: Top Highlights

The Romanesque Cloister

A tranquil double row of arched stone columns around a small garden, one of Dubrovnik's few pre-1667 structures still standing largely intact.

💊

The Old Pharmacy (since 1317)

Among the oldest continuously operating pharmacies in Europe, still stocked with historic ceramic jars, scales, and handwritten prescription ledgers.

📜

Monastery Museum & Library
