Overview & History

Lindenhof is Zurich's oldest public green space, a car-free terrace on the left bank of the Limmat in the heart of the Old Town (Altstadt). It sits on the site of a former Roman fort and later a Carolingian royal palace, and today offers one of the best free panoramic views in the city — over the Old Town rooftops, the Grossmünster and Fraumünster towers, the Limmat, and (on clear days) the Alps. As a public square, it is free and open at all times.
