York Minster (officially the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York) has stood at York's heart since 627 CE, though the current Gothic structure dates from the 13th century. The cathedral's soaring nave, intricate ribbed vaulting, and exceptional stained glass windows—including the famous Great East Window—make it an architectural and artistic treasure. Visitors can climb the tower for panoramic views or explore the undercroft beneath the cathedral to see Roman foundations.

York has been a major Christian site for nearly 1,400 years. The current building, begun in 1361, is the third cathedral on this site. It took approximately 250 years to complete. The cathedral survived the English Reformation, the English Civil War, and several fires (notably 1840), emerging as one of England's most intact medieval cathedrals.
