Overview & History

The Royal Castle anchors the eastern edge of Warsaw's Old Town Market Square, at the head of plac Zamkowy. Hitler's forces deliberately demolished the castle in 1944; what stands today is a meticulous post-war reconstruction, rebuilt largely from Canaletto's 18th-century cityscape paintings and salvaged fragments, and reopened to the public in 1984.

Is This Covered by the Warsaw Pass?

Compare Warsaw Passes

No — confirmed absent from the Warsaw Pass's own published list of included attractions. The Royal Castle is listed only as an "official partner" of the pass, not among its confirmed free-entry inclusions, so budget for this ticket separately regardless of whether you buy the pass.

Warsaw Pass

Not included. Confirmed absent from the Warsaw Pass's own published inclusion list across two independent checks; shown only as an "official partner," not a free-entry inclusion — a genuine, sourced exclusion, not a research gap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Royal Castle in Warsaw included with the Warsaw Pass?
No — it's confirmed absent from the Warsaw Pass's own published list of included attractions. It appears only as an "official partner," not a free-entry inclusion, so plan to buy a ticket separately.
What is the cheapest way to visit?
The Palace Route (Tin-Roofed Palace only) is the least expensive paid ticket at 30 zł (20 zł reduced); a limited number of free tickets to this route are also given out at the box office on Wednesdays.
Is the current building original?
No — the castle was deliberately destroyed by Nazi Germany in 1944. The building open today is a painstaking reconstruction completed in 1988, based partly on 18th-century Canaletto paintings of the original.
