The Musée National Marc Chagall holds the largest public collection of Marc Chagall's work, built around the 17 paintings of his Biblical Message series, which the artist gave to the French state. Created during Chagall's lifetime with support from culture minister André Malraux, the museum was designed with Chagall's own involvement — he chose the placement of each painting, designed the stained-glass windows for the concert hall, and helped lay out the gardens.
