Castel Sant'Elmo

Take the Montesanto funicular up to the Vomero hill for Castel Sant'Elmo (€5.00) and its panoramic terrace over the bay. The adjoining Certosa di San Martino is a separately-ticketed museum you could add if time allows — see its own guide entry for the current price.

Morning to afternoon (09:00 - 15:00)

Pompeii

Spend the full day at Pompeii (€20.00 standard entry) — this is a large site that easily fills 3-4 hours on its own, so this day is intentionally not combined with other major Naples attractions. Tickets are nominative with a daily visitor cap; buying online in advance via the official Vivaticket channel is recommended.

Circumvesuviana train back to Naples

Return to Naples by the same Circumvesuviana line — allow extra time near closing, since the last stretch of the site (from the Forum back to the entrance) takes longer than it looks on the map.

• Vesuvius crater entry is a separate, mandatory-online-booking ticket from a different provider — if you want to add it, book it well in advance and treat it as its own half-day, not something to squeeze in after Pompeii on the same schedule.
