Overview & History

Place de la Bourse is Bordeaux's most photographed landmark — an elegant 18th-century square facing the Garonne, built under royal architects Ange-Jacques Gabriel and his son. Since 2006, the paved esplanade opposite it has hosted the Miroir d'Eau, the world's largest reflecting pool at roughly 3,450 m², which alternates between a still, mirror-flat sheet of water reflecting the square's façades and a cooling mist effect. As a public square and esplanade, both are free to visit at any time.

What to See: Top Highlights

🏛️

Place de la Bourse Façades

Symmetrical 18th-century stone buildings, including the former Bourse (stock exchange) and Hôtel des Douanes, framing the square on three sides.

💧

Miroir d'Eau (Water Mirror)

A thin film of water over polished granite creates a near-perfect reflection of the square, cycling with a fine mist every 10-15 minutes.

📸

Golden Hour Photo Spot

Sunrise and sunset are the classic times to catch the reflection of the Bourse façade in still water, a signature Bordeaux photograph.
