Gediminas' Tower is the last standing remnant of Vilnius's medieval Upper Castle, crowning the wooded hill above Cathedral Square. Operated today by the National Museum of Lithuania, the tower houses a small museum on the castle complex's history and displays of Baltic jewellery and military artefacts, while its rooftop platform gives one of the best panoramic views over the Old Town's rooftops, the Neris River, and the modern skyline beyond. Visitors can reach the hilltop either by a short, steep walk or via a separate funicular ticket.
What to See: Top Highlights
The Castle Museum
Several floors of exhibits trace the history of the Vilnius Castle complex, alongside displays of Baltic jewellery and military artefacts.
The Hillside Funicular
A short funicular ride (separate ticket) climbs Gediminas Hill for those who'd rather skip the walking path up.
Rooftop Panorama
The tower's upper platform is one of the best vantage points in Vilnius, overlooking Cathedral Square, the Old Town, and the Neris River.
