The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a white octagonal monument honoring former president Chiang Kai-shek, standing at the eastern end of Liberty Square, flanked by the National Theater and National Concert Hall. The memorial hall building and the surrounding plaza are both free to visit, and the ceremonial honor guard changes on the hour throughout the day.

A 6.3-meter bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek sits at the top of 89 steps (one for each year of his life), reached by escalator or stairs.
