The Bock Casemates are a UNESCO World Heritage-listed network of rock-hewn fortification galleries and tunnels carved into the Bock promontory, the rocky outcrop where Count Siegfried built the castle that founded Luxembourg City in 963 AD. Expanded over centuries by Burgundian, Spanish, French, and Austrian engineers, the tunnels once sheltered thousands of soldiers and horses and earned Luxembourg the nickname "the Gibraltar of the North." Today visitors can walk sections of the galleries and emerge at viewpoints over the Alzette valley and the Grund district below.
What to See: Top Highlights
Rock-Hewn Fortification Tunnels
Galleries carved directly into the Bock promontory's rock, with cannon embrasures and passageways dating back centuries.
Chemin de la Corniche Views
Openings in the rock face frame views over the Alzette river, the Grund district's rooftops, and Luxembourg's fortified old town.
The Founding Site of Luxembourg City
The Bock promontory is where Count Siegfried's 963 AD castle gave rise to the city — the single most historically significant spot in the country.

Is the Bock Casemates Included on the LuxembourgPass?
Compare Luxembourg City PassesNot currently. Unlike the National Museum of History and Art and Mudam, the Bock Casemates carries no "free admission with the LuxembourgPass" confirmation on its own official page, and the pass's own shop and travel-trade materials state it is currently excluded — alongside a separate City Promenade tour — "due to technical reasons." Budget for the standard ticket regardless of whether you buy the pass.
