Overview & History

Chapel Bridge is Lucerne's defining landmark: a 204-metre wooden covered bridge crossing the Reuss River, first built around 1333 and lined inside with 17th-century gable paintings depicting Swiss and local history. It links the Old Town on the right bank with St. Peter's Chapel (Rathausquai) on the left, passing the octagonal Water Tower (Wasserturm) partway across. As a public footbridge, it is completely free and open around the clock, with no ticket, gate, or reservation of any kind.
