What The Ticket Includes

The Plaza is the public viewing platform, not the concert hall itself. A pass or comparison that says "Elbphilharmonie included" without specifying Plaza-vs-tour-vs-concert is not meaningfully informative — see the componentized breakdown above.

Overview & Visitor Introduction

The Elbphilharmonie is not one single product — "Elbphilharmonie included" on any pass or comparison should never be taken at face value. There are at least three genuinely separate things to distinguish: the public Plaza viewing platform, a guided tour of the concert hall itself, and concert admission for a specific performance.

The Plaza is currently free to visit — either as a spontaneous walk-up (subject to "remaining ticket" availability at the on-site pavilion) or as a pre-booked time slot carrying a €3-per-ticket booking fee (€2 for groups of 10+). This changes on 5 October 2026: from that date, Plaza admission becomes a flat €5 for both walk-up and pre-booked visitors, per the venue's own site.

The guided concert-hall tour and individual concert tickets are both separate, additionally-paid products — neither is included in any Plaza visit, and neither is the kind of thing a general city-pass discount could plausibly cover in full.

History & Architectural Significance

Opened in January 2017 after a lengthy and famously over-budget construction, the Elbphilharmonie sits atop a former warehouse (Kaispeicher A) in HafenCity, its wave-shaped glass roof now one of Hamburg's most recognizable landmarks.

The building houses two concert halls (Großer Saal and Kleiner Saal) alongside the public Plaza, a hotel, and apartments.

What to See: Top Highlights

🌅

Plaza Panorama

A 360° public viewing platform roughly 37 meters up, with views over the harbour and HafenCity.

🎼

Großer Saal

The main concert hall, seen only via a guided tour or a ticketed concert — not from the Plaza itself.

🏗️

The Escalator

A long curved escalator ("Tube") connecting the entrance to the Plaza level, itself part of the visitor experience.

Compare Hamburg Passes

Neither Turbopass nor Hamburg CARD includes free Plaza access or a tour. Hamburg CARD's only confirmed benefit here is a 15% discount on the guided Plaza tour specifically — not Plaza admission itself and not concert tickets.

Hamburg CARD

Discounted. 15% off the Elbphilharmonie Plaza guided walking tour ticket. Shown at the cash desk with a valid card This discount applies specifically to the Plaza guided walking tour, not Plaza admission itself (which is separately free/low-cost for everyone) and not concert-hall tickets — no evidence found that any Hamburg CARD benefit applies to concert admission.

Turbopass Hamburg City Pass

Optional (selectable attraction). Counts as one of your chosen attractions. Turbopass's own page does not list Elbphilharmonie Plaza or a guided tour as an included or discounted item. One of the pass's discount-tagged tiles (a 50%-off "another city tour, e.g. the fish market") mentions visiting sites including the Elbphilharmonie as a stop, but this is a guided-tour discount, not a direct Elbphilharmonie ticket relationship — recorded as OPTIONAL/UNKNOWN-adjacent rather than a real Elbphilharmonie inclusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Elbphilharmonie Plaza free to visit?
Currently, yes — either a free walk-up "remaining ticket" subject to availability, or a free ticket plus a €3 booking fee to reserve a specific time slot. This changes on 5 October 2026, when Plaza admission becomes a flat €5 for everyone, confirmed directly on the venue's own site.
Do city passes include the Elbphilharmonie?
Not in any meaningful way. Turbopass doesn't include it at all. Hamburg CARD's only confirmed benefit is a 15% discount on the guided concert-hall tour specifically — not Plaza admission and not concert tickets.
Can I visit the concert hall itself without buying a concert ticket?
Only via the separate guided tour (roughly 90 minutes, bookable up to 8 weeks ahead through the venue's own shop). The Plaza itself does not give access to the concert halls.
How much does a concert ticket cost?
It varies entirely by performance and seat category — concert tickets are sold per-event through the venue's own programme page, not as a flat admission price. Example prices seen ranged from around €18 (a small-hall recital) to €52+ (a large-hall performance) — illustrative only, not a stable figure.
